...Fog of War!

The skies darken with the smoke signals of war. Thick blanket of smog eclipsing even the sun, cast its cloud kill hands over the city. Men, women and children drowning in their own air. Curiously, birds and beast are sorely missing, probably guided by their god-given instinct of the impending doom!

The Klang Valley is in a crisis and the Government is not doing enough about it. Every year, our poor, corrupted and weak neighbor set their forest aflame sending clouds of deadly air billowing into our country.

This is an ACT OF WAR! As a nation, we have a duty to defend ourselves. The time to act is now. They must abide to the Asean Transboundary Haze Agreement of which they have repeatedly refused to sign.

Being a Malaysian, I realise that many of my countrymen don't take kindly to comparison with our friendly neighbour. In fact, when my Singaporean friends laugh at me about how corrupt, how incompetent and lately, over the faux pas of our politicians, I'd ask them to keep quiet.

But deep down, what hurt more is knows that they are right. If we don't snap out of our myopic mentality, we will forever be laughing stock and be left behind.

I stressed the last paragraph because I understand that many Malaysians don't like being compared to Singapore.

And I want to make it clear that I am not trying to glorify others achievements, but trying to stress the kind of anguish I felt when I look at this country, so much in common with my own, with historical and cultural ties that stretched back to the Johor Sultan, and with far less resources than we do, having overtaken us by leaps and bounds, while we continue to be saddled with myopic visions and concentrate on petty things……….like banning shorts in residential colleges.

Why?………..the government is deaf of non-malays opinion and outcry. You must join Umno and cry there. The government policy is to create "Bangsa Umno" instead of Bangsa Malaysia.

Why are we all so worked up over a million heist when hundreds of millions heist are happening at the GLCs by our elected representatives and their cronies!

I also don't understand why bring this matter up when hundreds of millions are stolen in broad daylight. Maybe for talk purpose. People here have learned that they don't have to work so hard to get anything. There are a lot of shortcuts here. So people are using them.

It is time our Malaysia government do something to stop the rot.

Let me sum up here:

When neighbour people fart, they will say "excuse me, pardon me". When Malaysians fart, they will say "not me, not me".

How can we learn with this attitude?

Please allow me to clarify that I am referring to Malaysians in general and not you in particular. I know how you feel when your Singapore friends talked about corruption and unscrupulous politician in Malaysia.

I would not expect you to defend the country. You would have put yourself into a more difficult position. You can actually do nothing except to feel the shame. I would just laugh it off with them. Well, don't take it upon yourself. After all, there is no yes comparison with our neighbour.

It would be so much easier for me to get a Singapore PR after I graduated and work in a place where my abilities are appreciated for what it is, and not having the politics of my skin to work against me.

Yet I have every intention of coming back and contribute in my own ways, even if I had to start from scratch after working off my bond in Singapore. So yes, I absolutely believe that there can be improvements, and it is what we all have to work for.

List of racial discriminations in Malaysia, practiced by government as well as government agencies. This list is an open secret. Best verified by government itself because it got the statistics.

This list is not in the order of importance, that means the first one on the list is not the most important and the last one on the list does not mean least important.

This list is a common knowledge to a lot of Malaysians, especially those non-malays (Chinese, Ibans, Kadazans, Orang Asli, Tamils, etc) who were being racially discriminated.

Figures in this list are estimates only and please take it as a guide only. Government of Malaysia has the most correct figures. Is government of Malaysia too ashamed to publish their racist acts by publishing racial statistics?

This list cover a period of about 48 years since independence (1957).

List of racial discriminations (Malaysia):

(1) Out of all the 5 major banks, only one bank is multi-racial, the rest are controlled by malays

(2) 99% of Petronas directors are malays

(3) 3% of Petronas employees are Chinese

(4) 99% of 2000 Petronas gasoline stations are owned by malays

(5) 100% all contractors working under Petronas projects must be bumis status

(6) 0% of non-malay staffs is legally required in malay companies. But there must be 30% malay staffs in Chinese companies.

(7) 5% of all new intake for government police, nurses, army, is non-malays.

(8) 2% is the present Chinese staff in Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), drop from 40% in 1960

(9) 2% is the percentage of non-malay government servants in Putrajaya. But malays make up 98%

(10) 7% is the percentage of Chinese government servants in the whole government (in 2004), drop from 30% in 1960

(11) 95% of government contracts are given to malays

(12) 100% all business licensees are controlled by malay government e.g. Taxi permits, Approved permits, etc

(13) 80% of the Chinese rice millers in Kedah had to be sold to malay controlled Bernas in 1980s. Otherwise, life is make difficult for Chinese rice millers

(14) 100 big companies set up, owned and managed by Chinese Malaysians were taken over by government, and later managed by malays since 1970s e.g. UTC, UMBC, MISC, etc

(15) At least 10 Chinese owned bus companies (throughout Malaysia, throughout 40 years) had to be sold to MARA or other malay transport companies due to rejection by malay authority to Chinese application for bus routes and rejection for their application for new buses

(16) 2 Chinese taxi drivers were barred from driving in Johor Larkin bus station. There are about 30 taxi drivers and 3 are Chinese in October 2004. Spoiling taxi club properties was the reason given

(17) 0 non-malays are allowed to get shop lots in the new Muar bus station (November 2004)

(18) 8000 billions ringgit is the total amount the government channeled to malay pockets through ASB, ASN, MARA, privatisation of government agencies, Tabung Haji etc, through NEP over 34 years period

(19) 48 Chinese primary schools closed down since 1968 - 2000

(20) 144 Indian primary schools closed down since 1968 - 2000

(21) 2637 malay primary schools built since 1968 - 2000

(22) 2.5% is government budget for Chinese primary schools. Indian schools got only 1%, malay schools got 96.5%

(23) While a Chinese parent with RM1000 salary (monthly) cannot get school-text-book-loan, a malay parent with RM2000 salary is eligible

(24) 10 all public universities vice chancellors are malays

(25) 5% - the government universities lecturers of non-malay origins had been reduced from about 70% in 1965 to only 5% in 2004

(26) Only 5% is given to non-malays for government scholarships over 40 years

(27) 0 Chinese or Indians were sent to Japan and Korea under "Look East Policy"

(28) 128 STPM Chinese top students could not get into the course that they aspired i.e. Medicine (in 2004)

(29) 10% place for non-bumi students for MARA science schools beginning from year 2003, but only 7% are filled. Before that it was 100% malays

(30) 50 cases whereby Chinese and Indian Malaysians, are beaten up in the National Service program in 2003

(31) 25% is Malaysian Chinese population in 2004, drop from 45% in 1957

(32) 7% is the present Malaysian Indians population (2004), a drop from 12% in 1957

(33) 2 millions Chinese Malaysians had emigrated to overseas since 40 years ago

(34) 0.5 million Indian Malaysians had emigrated to overseas

(35) 3 millions Indonesians had migrated into Malaysia and became Malaysian citizens with bumis status.

(36) 600000 are the Chinese and Indian Malaysians with red IC and were rejected repeatedly when applying for citizenship for 40 years. Perhaps 60% of them had already passed away due to old age. This shows racism of how easily Indonesians got their citizenships compare with the Chinese and Indians

(37) 5% - 15% discount for a malay to buy a house, regardless whether the malay is rich or poor

(38) 2% is what Chinese new villages get compare with 98% of what malay villages got for rural development budget

(39) 50 road names (at least) had been changed from Chinese names to other names

(40) 1 Dewan Gan Boon Leong (in Malacca) was altered to other name (e.g. Dewan Serbaguna or sort) when it was being officially used for a few days. Government try to shun Chinese names. This racism happened in around year 2000 or sort

(41) 0 temples/churches were built for each housing estate. But every housing estate got at least one mosque/surau built

(42) 3000 mosques/surau were built in all housing estates throughout Malaysia since 1970. No temples, no churches are required to be built in housing estates

(43) 1 Catholic church in Shah Alam took 20 years to apply to be constructed. But told by malay authority that it must look like a factory and not look like a church. Still not yet approved in 2004

(44) 1 publishing of Bible in Iban language banned (in 2002)

(45) 0 of the government TV stations (RTM1, RTM2, TV3) are directors of non-malay origins

(46) 30 government produced TV dramas and films always showed that the bad guys had Chinese face, and the good guys had malay face. You can check it out since 1970s. Recent years, this tendency becomes less

(47) 10 times, at least, malays (especially Umno) had threatened to massacre the Chinese Malaysians using May 13 since 1969

(48) 20 constituencies won by DAP would not get funds from the government to develop. Or these Chinese majority constituencies would be the last to be developed

(49) 100 constituencies (parliaments and states) had been racistly re-delineated so Chinese voters were diluted that Chinese candidates, particularly DAP candidates lost in election since 1970s

(50) Only 3 out of 12 human rights items are ratified by Malaysia government since 1960

(51) 0 - elimination of all forms of racial discrimination (UN Human Rights) is not ratified by Malaysia government since 1960s

(52) 20 reported cases whereby malay ambulance attendances treated Chinese patients inhumanely, and malay government hospital staffs purposely delay attending to Chinese patients in 2003. Unreported cases may be 200

(53) 50 cases each year whereby Chinese, especially Chinese youths being beaten up by malay youths in public places. We may check at police reports provided the police took the report, otherwise there will be no record

(54) 20 cases every year whereby Chinese drivers who accidentally knocked down malays were seriously assaulted or killed by malays

(55) 12% is what ASB/ASN got per annum while banks fixed deposit is only about 3.5% per annum

There are hundreds more racial discriminations in Malaysia to add to this list of "colossal" racism. It is hope that the victims of racism will write in to expose racism.

Malaysia government should publish statistics showing how much malays had benefited from the "special rights" of malays and at the same time tell the statistics of how much other minority races are being discriminated.

Hence, the responsibility lies in the Malaysia government itself to publish unadulterated statistics of racial discrimination.

If the Malaysia government hides the statistics above, then there must be some evil doings, immoral doings, shameful doings and sinful doings, like the Nazi, going on onto the non-malays of Malaysia.

Civilized nation, unlike evil Nazi, must publish statistics to show its treatment on its minority races. This is what Malaysia must publish……….

We are asking for the publication of the statistics showing how "implementation of special rights of malays" had inflicted colossal racial discrimination onto non-malays.

Truth hurts.

No matter what the government is doing about the education system and for many years it has put across a system starting with quota and then matriculation and now meritocracy, to me it meant just another dead end that has polarised the malays as outnumbering other races in the value good only in quantity than in quality. The result is unemployment amongst the malays in big numbers.

We have a situation that the government we choose is fulfilling their promises by providing the malays with the privilege regimes, but not the future.

The point is while you provide the platform for the malays to take off and fly high, there is no place for the malays to land, so we have to search for a landing ground and crash-land anywhere we can and hope for the best.

We have a situation now where our politicians are quick to use this as the bullets to shoot back at the malays for failing to make use of the advantages. Just where are the advantages the malays have if only few of us did really make the grade to become peers amongst other races who have not the privileges but have proven themselves at far greater pace?

If the professional malays are good in their command of English, the malays too may one day be employed out of Malaysia and that is a real advantage to say the least.

I have a vision that if our learning medium is English, we can have a true Malaysian legacy of education system without class or strata where the future generation of malays and other races of Malaysia no longer talk about issue of privileges, but working together to generate world class citizens by using and mastering that single language of education.

We have to sacrifice our ideals for the sake of our future Malaysian school going generations.

The malay race is not racing with other races of Malaysians to live in Malaysia. We should build a Malaysian race to race with other nations of the world to achieve the Vision 2020 of one developed nation.

In reality, although NEP is officially dead, some of the policies remain favoring one race regardless of need (example: education, housing, loan facility, etc).

The non-bumis feels that NEP is holding them back (this is true in many cases) in order for the bumis to catch up.

It is sad to think some bumis believe the best way to catching up with the non-bumis is to hold non-bumis back.

Malaysia has lost many able non-bumis to other competing countries (brain drain) and is unable to see the relative advantage of retaining this pool of talents to help them.

What an irony that I experienced less discrimination in foreign country than in my own soil?

After my studies in US, I applied for job there and to my surprise it is unlawful to be discriminatory, employers do not ask your race and religion, and the good things, employment is based sorely on merits regardless of your background, a lot of my friends stay back because the incentives are excellent and the R&D facilities are cutting edge reputation, universities there are really centers for breeding new ideas unlike in Malaysia local universities, where freedom of thoughts are controlled by Acts.

Frankly I have no ideas how we can compete with them when our "think outside the box" culture is oppressed. We say one thing but we do the opposite, the government is sending the wrong signal. In this country, even we have the hardware, we lack human-ware.

Border has no meanings nowadays, talents will go where they are demand and appreciated, and one day globalization will break down our Malaysia affirmative actions whether we like it or not.

While I submit that Malaysia is a net loser in this global "brain drain", I think the country has to re-look at its programs to stem the outflow. The sad truth is that what we attracting are the "lower skilled" or "unskilled" types.

Malaysia is just the only country in the world where special privileges are shamelessly given to, and accepted by the majority of the population.

I read with great sadness over the controversy arising from the statement made by with regards to the concept of malays as the 'masters of the land'.

It now appears to me that the problem began with the concept of 'Ketuanan Melayu'. This concept was introduced around the time when Malaysia was working hard to achieve independence from the British.

As we are all aware, the malays were marginalised in the economic sector and perhaps to a large extend the political side as well. The malay leaders of the time tried to boost the spirit of the malay community by introducing the concept of 'Ketuanan Melayu'.

So, the malay leaders at the time used the concept 'Ketuanan Melayu' as a rallying point not as a tool to oppress or rid the non-malays, but merely as a cry to prevent the malays from drifting towards oblivion in the era of Malaysia as a country.

I am a son of a Malaysian career-diplomat. I have had the privilege of traveling around the world all my life.

Based on the input I received from many others in my journey, racist concepts as Apartheid; KKK; and many more cannot be compared to 'Ketuanan Melayu'. While the other concepts ranging from ethnic cleansing to white supremacy are meant to dominate and wipe out the other races, 'Ketuanan Melayu' is only meant to help the malays to get to equal footing with the non-malays.

We can see today the barriers for non-malays in Malaysia are slowly coming down as the malays have steadily climbed up the ladders.

While our system might not be perfect, and rightfully we should criticise where need be, there is no need to throw mud across the table and certainly there is no need to use inflammatory words. Hopefully we can all steer our beloved Malaysia to a better future.

Migration and emigration of human beings is a pre-requisite of human progress and development. Without migration, human beings would be doomed to an existence worse than that of animals. Even animals migrate to seek a better habitat.

Patriotism is not a one-way thing, it is a two-way commitment. If one finds that one's patriotism and loyalty is not reciprocated as having to live with a corrupt government, discriminatory policies, inhumane and repressive laws etc, one has a right to review one's patriotism and commitment if one so chooses.

Why would people stay if their talents are not recognised in their own country and they do not have the opportunities to develop their potential? Why remain when they can have these opportunities in another country?

Indeed, it is very fortunate that we all live in this day and age of globalisation where we are free to live and work anywhere in the world as long as we have the skills and talent.

There is much less reason now to put up with bad governments, or corrupt, oppressive regimes and racist, anywhere in the world.

Of course the grass is never greener on the other side. You still need the same energy, enterprise and sometimes luck to make it. But there is no doubt in my mind and in those who have worked here and overseas - the playing field is more level abroad.

Whilst, I may add that most lower middle-class Malaysian citizens and professionals are the main bulk of immigrants to countries abroad. They need to get settled first and have a few contacts to start life anew.

To expect them to be millionaires in businesses will take a generation or more and we are beginning to see that now. If they had not emigrated, they would have been hard pressed to send their children abroad and everybody knows the quota system for universities, jobs, job promotions and opportunities back home.

In Canada, we experience the best there is in life. Every citizen has equal rights. They have done well in every aspect of life.

In the US, anyone whether black, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Mexican etc, has the right to run for president. There are no restrictions, one only needs to secure the votes.

Nobody should operate under the assumption that migration is a bed of sweet, smelling roses. Roses have thorns.

Certainly, migration is not a dirty word. In fact, migration is the reason for this multiethnic paradise I call home today. The question is, can Malaysia retain her talents?

We are simply losing good people to the more developed countries, and this problem is also faced by other countries such as India and China.

Singapore has been absorbing our talents regardless of the medium of instruction they have been taught in. Perhaps the biggest slap on our face is the fact that thousands and thousands of Malaysians have been recruited to bloom in the Lion City's workforce, while our own industry leaders have done nothing to help the government keep these investments from going abroad.

Many people leave the country for a variety of reasons. Some leave for economic reasons, some for better education, some over concerns for the climate of democracy in their home country. There is no reason to deride any migrant for their choices in life. Every human being is entitled to the right of social, physical and geographical mobility - you seek your place on earth and call it home.

So leave if you must, go while you can, but don't give up on the march.

That is a worthy sacrifice that requires courage.

Congratulations to those who have found a better future in life.

I am now 31 years old and draw a comfortable monthly salary of US$22000 in a foreign land. I miss my family, my friends, my home, my Malaysian hawker food and the life in Malaysia.

But of late, my idealistic vision of my country has really come crashing down, faster and harder than ever before.

I read about Umno Youth attacking the so-called meritocracy system for university admission because there are less than 60 percent of bumi students in law and pharmacy, whilst conveniently keeping silent about the fact that 90 percent of overseas scholarship recipients are bumis and that bumis form the vast majority in courses like medicine, engineering and accountancy.

I read about the higher education minister vowing that non-bumi Malaysians will never ever step foot into UiTM.

I read about Umno Youth accusing Chinese schools of being detrimental to racial integration, while demanding that Mara Junior Science Colleges and other residential schools be kept only for bumis.

I read that at our local universities, not a single vice-chancellor or deputy vice-chancellor is non-bumi. I read that in the government, not a single secretary-general of any ministry is a non-bumi.

I read about the poor having to pay full price for a house whilst millionaires demand their 10 percent bumi discount when buying RM2 million bungalows in a gated community.

As I read all this, I tremble with fear.

I can deal with the lack press freedom, the ISA, our inefficient and bureaucratic civil service, the lack of democracy, our awful manners and even a little corruption. But I cannot deal with racism in my homeland.

I pray that our leaders have the foresight and humanity to see that the present experiment will not work and cannot continue. I pray that they will have the strength to make our country a home for all Malaysians and that they will have mercy for the poor, including the non-malays.

I pray for true racial harmony and acceptance in Malaysia. Is there a future for me, for my children and for their children? I am truly frightened.

Good article!

Congratulation to you.

You are a great man, may God bless you in all your hard works.

You would make Dr M to cry again. Though Malaysian Chinese students are discriminately barred from entering into the local universities in spite of outstanding results, they are forced to study overseas.

Nowadays, the degrees obtained by these students are widely accepted, they can face the world-trend of globalization.

They are not accepted by their own country, but they are welcome by all countries throughout the world.

Singapore is not that great, but look at Malaysia; lots of natural resources, a larger population, yet still a 3 class world country.

Come on, we achieved independence at the same time……….

In Malaysia, you just need two things for survival - work hard for any given opportunity and have a right religious belief. The rest is history.

Malaysian Chinese have no future in Malaysia.

That corrupt, incompetent and lazy majority will run our beloved country to the ground.

Emigrate if you have the chance to do so.

Well, I am also one of them victim of brain drain……….and all my fellow friends……….

I wish I am not a Malaysian and never wish that my next generations would suffer the same faith as I do..........

Ha……….great statistics……….There is no revolution without bloodshed.

Some educated people talk about justice
Some neutral people dream of truly Malaysian Malaysia
Some no money for stay and work hard
Some opt to escape by emigrating to overseas
Some who are rich and earn gigantic money with the malays is stay

Do you think that the malays elsewhere and on this board don't know about these details? Of course they do.

But they have no conscience or regard for others except themselves and their greedy ability to acquire - by fair means of foul - anything they think can grab. What might the response of these (or so faithful and great) Muslims be - not that such injustice must be put right - but we malays are very nice!

This demeans their race. This demeans their religion. But they don't get it.

Despite all the businesses and government job opportunities given to the malays, they still claim that they have not reached the 30% quota of malays ownership of businesses and national wealth?

This is very depressing. Why the 'human rights movements' are not doing anything in Malaysia?

Malaysia doesn't practice 1 person 1 vote - 10 Kuala Lumpur voters probably is worth 1 Sabahan/Sarawakian vote!

This is 'Malaysia Boleh'. They can do whatever they want……….They can control Malaysia, but can they control the world?

So don't be misled by your small representation in parliament if number is the sole measure. But think about it - why not unite with other community on common values rather than hope to become a 'minority'? If you are anti-corruption, you are likely to belong to a majority……….think, imagine……….

Well, you are beginning to realise that if we continue to think purely from a one sided standpoint, we all know where Malaysia will be in the future! So what can we do about it?

One option, let's all inter-marry and make everyone happy;

two, we create two separate states……….this was already done when Singapore was allowed to be a separate country;

three, we get together, kick out Umno, MIC, MCA, Gerakan, and the rest of the BN gang and form another multiracial party, to enable a two party system that can be effective in a proper democratic system, like as UK;

four, we let the rot stay and end up as maybe some separate countries, each country ruled by an ethnic type;

five, we all sit down and understand each others problems and we develop and improve our already government system to accommodate all peoples living in the country but not forgetting the rights also of the minorities and also the majority.

I am in favour of option three and five together, but can it be done? It is for the people to do, not the government or any vested interest group.

Before any other option can be undertaken:

Let's understand the constitution in both the spirit and the letter of the constitution
Let's understand the cultures and various religions in the country
Let's understand the democratic system that we inherited from the British
Let's understand the history of the land and the legal system that we inherited from the British and the pre-British of malay rulers
Let's go back to the root of the existence of Malaysia and develop the nation and be proud of it

By referring to the statistic, Chinese Malaysians can still retain who they are until today; that is a good thing. As we can see that Chinese Malaysians are the best, no matter what "U" are trying to do (U refer to those losers)………..I am sure we Chinese Malaysians will not afraid. The more shit thing "U" do, the better we will become……….so Chinese Malaysians keep on going and don't give up easily as we have to proof to them that we are always the best race..........

Yes. Better fly off whenever you feel not satisfy.

What I do know is that with so-called special rights, Malaysia lost a lot of talented brains. Those well-off enough go overseas to study and stay there. The rest just make do. Some turn out to be big and successful businessmen. The rest may be on smaller scale but beside business, what can they do?

With many families who had moved to a country that outwardly displays basic rights, it would be wiser the families who are still in Malaysia can really push themselves to get settled in Australia, from been regarded as second class citizens. With so many who had already established, and became citizens of Australia, in all fairness they must pull the stranded families from the clutches of the evil and bigoted malay government.

It is pleasing to the hearts and souls to see success stories in this board, and hope many more can get out from the horrible and nightmarish daily events anyone have to go through been in Malaysia, that regards its other citizens as unimportant and not part of the fabric.

Once again success comes from hard work and determination, and I know everyone has to go through to get the rewards, but in Malaysia there is no such thing for any to be successful from determination, because it only favors one race and no one else.

No matter how many times you tell your encounter abroad, they would just turn a deaf ear, continuing to practise their racial discriminatory policy.

They are just like robbers. Time after time they'd said if you don't give us what we want, violence is the only answer.

Regretfully, there is no such thing as a free lunch in the real world. Whilst someone has to pay for it in the interim, everyone has to pay for it in the end.

Prices of raw materials are rising, plastic, solvent, steel, etc, etc. Productivity is low, managers are quick in spending and slow in earning. Collection is slow and economy is sluggish. Interest rising and overall margin is down.

With employees especially the field personnel carrying company laptops surfing the net for songs and chatting with friends with hours stolen from the office. Children are chalking up more digits on cell-phone bill coupled with their increasing pocket money spent at coffee café for more talks.

Things are not looking good. Older generation like us have to work harder to support such phenomena.

Our academics must avoid corrupting habits of mind which finds reprehensible: Nothing in my view is more reprehensible than those habits of mind in the intellectual that induce avoidance, that characteristic turning away from a difficult and principled position which you know to be the right one, but which you decide not to take……….

Yes in Malaysia we have cultivated a habit/mentality of 'avoid'.

We avoid work (committee, meetings, privileges, seminars, etc, etc, so we can skip from work),
we avoid taking prompt and appropriate action (waiting for inspiration to make simple decisions, setting up of commission this and commission that, and even avoid implementing recommendations tabled),
we avoid looking ourselves in the mirror and eventually we become ugly Malaysians,
we avoid going through the learning curve to hone our skills (sub-sub-sub out the jobs so we can be rent seekers and the guys whom we sub to, can also be a sub rent seekers),
we avoid confrontation and debate (ISA, OSA, etc, etc),
we avoid competition (special quota, special assistance, NEP, negotiated contract, etc, etc),
we also avoid being criticized for we are quick to penalized, with this we short ourselves from learning from mistakes and our weaknesses so necessary, for our improvement and progress in life.

I am a firm believer in psycho-cybernetics. I am not sure if the local media give any highlights to story like that which is much needed in our schools and universities to inspire and motivate the young to appreciate self reliance.

It is sad that the local media often splash and spin stories on mediocre achievements. In today global world, superb achievements by citizenry from other countries are readily available especially over the Internet.

Excessive rewards and blowing of the horn over mediocre achievement continue to flood the minds of our young into believing that, in Malaysia mediocre achievement is good enough and we are exempted from the higher standards from the rest of the world.

I am not sure how many Malaysians have emerged from their background of poverty to succeed in this world. One thing for sure, these people do not use poverty as an excuse not to put in an honest day hard work.

You will see an exodus of people going to Singapore and Singapore will thank Malaysia for being the surrogate mother for 12 years (free education from Standard 1 - Form 6).

Singapore is not a natural country but man-made, a trading post the British has developed into a nodal point in their worldwide maritime empire - they inherited the island without its hinterland, like a heart without a body. Don't get me? Ok.

Managing Singapore is easy? You must be kidding me. Try to read up on the history of Singapore when they first leave Malaysia to go their own way with no signposts to their next destination.

They had to build up an army from scratch, and the British had made no offer to help. They need to prevent massive unemployment when British wanted to pull out. No financial centre at the beginning, messed up the general election, the communist self-destruct was even scary……….

My history probably get the facts wrong, but what I know is that the Singapore we see today - shining, rich and modern was a poor, decrepit, colony once.

The Chinese and Indians have been in Malaysia for more than a hundred years but still some people think they are second class immigrants, not even full fledged citizens.

Let me ask you a question. If you say that the other races are second class, why collect the same amount of taxes from them? Why not has a separate taxing system for the different races? If a race contributes more to the country income, I can understand if the government decides to give that race special rights and privileges.

Otherwise, it is a silly policy that will make us lose out in the global competitive environment. How do you compete with another country, say Singapore, when you have a steady decline of human resources (the educated and technical population) to the other country? Singapore become first world within one generation. Where are we now?

It seems that they are contented by the fact that we are the leader of third world countries. Nothing to be proud of - actually - but that is their mentality……….

To be honest I rather see Malaysia economic die than see people been unequal because of their race. Most of us here are eligible to vote, so say no to Umno and their BN bullshit. MCA, MIC are Umno's puppet.

Show me a malay who has more than 9 A1s in SPM who was turned away in his application for scholarship, and I will show you 20 non-malays in the same situation.

I wish the pro-malay special rights people could step into a non-malay shoe for one day and taste life in Malaysia.

I will just leave. Sooner or later, they are going to realize the massive brain drain - in fact they already have.
